This link of audio captures what Orio was doing up until his last moment before the South Tower collapsed. He gets a working elevator to about the 40th floor and climbs to the 78th floor (floor of the plane impact) via an open stairwell with all his fire gear. He was putting out fires along the way while trying to save others.  We saw him in the French Documentary and he had his oxygen tank on his back with his firefighting gear when he was instructed to go up in the South Tower.

Battalion Chief Orio J. Palmer

“The 45-year-old Palmer was one of the departments rising stars, renowned for his smarts and nerve and decency, as well as his physical fitness. He was also among the most knowledgeable about communication. Palmer died a rising star and an uncommonly brave fire chief.”

At breakfast time at his home in Valley Stream, Orio Palmer would pop in a Rascals CD, and dance around the kitchen singing
"It's a Beautiful Morning."
The kids laughed, and called him the Music Man.

"Orio's passion for his family outweighed everything else in his life. Anything he did in one form or another he did for his family. They were his world."

Lt. James McCaffrey FDNY

"I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean...I hope when one door closes another one opens...
I hope you'll always give Faith a fighting chance...and when you have the choice to sit it out or dance...
I hope you dance."

"Life is precious. It is a temporary position. Live it well."
